IPOH - A marine biology officer lost RM500,000 after falling victim to a phone scam syndicate in an incident last May.Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the 44-year-old man, who works with a private company, lodged a police report at the Ipoh District Police Headquarters yesterday."Initial police investigations revealed that on May 14, 2025, the victim received a phone call from an unknown number claiming he was involved in money laundering activities. "The following day, the victim was contacted by someone claiming to be a police officer from the Pahang Police Contingent Headquarters, who then connected him to another person claiming to be an investigating officer from Bukit Aman," he said in a statement today.Noor Hisam said the victim, believing the syndicates claims, proceeded to transfer a total of RM500,000 via online transactions and automated teller machines (ATM) to nine different accounts.Therefore, he advised the public not to easily believe calls from unknown numbers claiming to be from the police, the Inland Revenue Board, banks, courts, couriers and other agencies accusing you of being involved in a crime, debt or suspicious packages."I asked to transfer money to a so-called security account or to provide banking details or a one-time password (OTP), do not panic

WASHINGTON - United States (US) President Donald Trump's administration filed a lawsuit against California on Wednesday, saying the state's regulations on egg and poultry production have driven up egg prices nationwide, reported German Press Agency (dpa)."The State of California has contributed to the historic rise in egg prices by imposing unnecessary red tape on the production of eggs," the lawsuit states.According to the US Department of Justice, California's laws - intended to reduce animal cruelty and mitigate the risk of foodborne illness - violate the Egg Products Inspection Act passed in 1970, which mandates national uniformity in egg safety standards.The lawsuit continues, saying that only the federal government has the authority to regulate the quality, inspection, and packaging of eggs.The regulations being challenged prohibit farmers from using "commonly accepted agricultural methods that helped keep eggs affordable," the Justice Department said in a statement.California has passed several laws related to eggs and chicken farms, including initiatives in 2008 and 2018 requiring that hens be kept in enclosures where they can "lie down, stand up, fully extend their limbs, and turn around freely." - BERNAMA

TAWAU - Tindakan seorang lelaki menunjukkan kemaluannya kepada seorang pelajar perempuan membawa padah apabila ditahan polis di sebuah rumah di kawasan Merotai, pada Selasa lalu.Suspek berusia 30 tahun itu melakukan perbuatan tidak senonoh terhadap remaja berusia 15 tahun ketika sedang bertanyakan arah jalan dalam kejadian Isnin lalu.Ketua Polis Daerah Tawau, Asisten Komisioner Jasmin Hussin berkata, susulan kejadian itu mangsa bertindak melaporkan kepada pihak polis."Menurut laporan, mangsa ketika dalam perjalanan pulang dari sekolah menuju ke rumahnya telah dihampiri seorang lelaki menggunakan sebuah kenderaan pacuan empat roda."Suspek yang pada awalnya bertanyakan arah tuju kepada mangsa telah bertindak berkelakuan tidak senonoh sambil menunjukkan kemaluannya," katanya dalam kenyataan pada Khamis.Katanya lagi, mangsa yang terkejut kemudiannya melarikan diri ke kawasan rumah yang berhampiran."Risau dengan keselamatan dirinya, mangsa tampil di balai polis berdekatan untuk membuat laporan dan sepasukan polis dari Balai Polis Bombalai berjaya mengesan suspek," katanya.Jasmin berkata, suspek ditahan bersama kenderaan yang digunakannya serta dibawa ke Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Tawau untuk tindakan lanjut."Kes disiasat di bawah Seksyen 14(a) Akta Kesalahan-Kesalahan Seksual Terhadap Kanak-Kanak 2017 (Akta 792) kerana melakukan amang seksual," katanya.
