Special financial aid for taxi and rental car drivers to be distributed in phases starting Wednesday - Loke - Sinardaily - 12/10 2:14 pm We are committed to providing the assistance promptly so that Hindu drivers can receive it before Deepavali."Some have asked how this aid can be provided when the budget has only just been tabled and not yet passed.""I wish to clarify that the revenue from the Prime Minister's announcement specifically the sale of the 'H' series special registration numbers (NPI) has already been collected for this year," he said.Media reports previously said bidding for the 'H' series special registration numbers generated RM91.2 million in revenue.Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said last Friday while presenting the budget themed "Malaysia MADANI: Reaching for the Skies while Anchored on Our Values" that the aid would be distributed this week as part of the effort to channel the proceeds from the special registration number sales back to the people. In a separate development, Loke said the MyKomuter50 pass, priced at RM50 per month, is expected to be implemented by January 1 next year at the latest. He noted that the monthly pass would allow Malaysian citizens unlimited use of KTM Komuter services for 30 days, thereby helping to reduce transportation and living costs."Previously, it was quite difficult to introduce this without any allocation or approval from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), as the Komuter service involves longer-distance travel."Ticket prices are higher. So, with the MOF's approval, we are pleased to collaborate with KTMB (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd) to introduce the My50-style pass for Komuter, known as MyKomuter50," he said.Loke said the implementation of the pass is currently being worked on with KTMB, including preparations for the ticketing system to make it easier for users to obtain the pass.He added that the government also plans to improve KTM Komuter services, including the deployment of 12 new train sets in the northern sector as early as February next year and a gradual increase in train frequency within the Klang Valley |

200 auxiliary police to guard ECRL cable theft hotspots - Sinardaily - 6/10 3:17 pm KUALA LUMPUR - Some 200 auxiliary police personnel will be deployed at East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) hotspots from November as part of tighter security measures against cable theft and to ensure smooth rail operations.Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said detection devices, alarm systems and closed-circuit television cameras had also been installed, while security guards and enforcement agencies were being engaged."Throughout the construction of the ECRL, we suffered losses of about RM4 million due to cable theft, including three cases last month, he said at an ECRL operational readiness briefing for media editors today.Darwis said MRL, as the project and asset owner, remained confident that the ECRL could begin operations by mid-December 2026, based on positive results from System Integration Testing (SIT).He said progress in the testing and commissioning phase had allowed Fault-Free Runs (FFR) involving Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) for passenger services and electric locomotives (E-Locos) for freight services to begin this month, a month ahead of schedule, without compromising safety or quality.Meanwhile, Darwis welcomed the agreement between the governments of Malaysia and China on the proposed 30km extension of the ECRL from Kota Bharu to Rantau Panjang. He said the extension was expected to reuse about 18km of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) tracks between Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang, which have been out of service since 2005."The project will facilitate the movement of cargo from southern Thailand to Malaysia, while allowing us to explore the potential of extending the line, he said.Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the proposed extension following his recent working visit to China, saying it could connect Malaysias rail network with Thailands east coast rail system and strengthen links within the wider Pan-Asian rail network.ECRL Operation Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Zaidi Sharif, meanwhile, said its E-Loco freight service had attracted strong interest from major companies seeking to reduce transport costs and their carbon footprint."The E-Loco service will not operate on a fixed timetable but according to demand from companies requiring freight services, which will operate at night, he said |
