warned that its so-called Adaptive Security Appliances -- devices that integrate a firewall and VPN with other security features -- had been targeted by state-sponsored spies who exploited two zero-day vulnerabilities in the networking giant's gear to compromise government targets globally in a hacking campaign it's calling ArcaneDoor. The hackers behind the intrusions, which Cisco's security division Talos is calling UAT4356 and which Microsoft researchers who contributed to the investigation have named STORM-1849, couldn't be clearly tied to any previous intrusion incidents the companies had tracked. Based on the group's espionage focus and sophistication, however, Cisco says the hacking appeared to be state-sponsored. "This actor utilized bespoke tooling that demonstrated a clear focus on espionage and an in-depth knowledge of the devices that they targeted, hallmarks of a sophisticated state-sponsored actor," a blog post from Cisco's Talos researchers reads. Cisco declined to say which country it believed to be responsible for the intrusions, but sources familiar with the investigation tell WIRED the campaign appears to be aligned with China's state interests. Cisco says the hacking campaign began as early as November 2023, with the majority of intrusions taking place between December and early January of this year, when it learned of the first victim. "The investigation that followed identified additional victims, all of which involved government networks globally," the company's report reads. In those intrusions, the hackers exploited two newly discovered vulnerabilities in Cisco's ASA products. One, which it's calling Line Dancer, let the hackers run their own malicious code in the memory of the network appliances, allowing them to issue commands to the devices, including the ability to spy on network traffic and steal data. A second vulnerability, which Cisco is calling Line Runner, would allow the hackers' malware to maintain its access to the target devices even when they were rebooted or updated. It's not yet clear if the vulnerabilities served as the initial access points to the victim networks, or how the hackers might have otherwise gained access before exploiting the Cisco appliances. Cisco advises that customers apply its new software updates to patch both vulnerabilities. A separate advisory (PDF) from the UK's National Cybersecurity Center notes that physically unplugging an ASA device does disrupt the hackers' access. HashiCorp's shares continued to surge Tuesday on the news. CNBC reports: Developers use HashiCorp's software to set up and manage infrastructure in public clouds that companies such as Amazon and Microsoft operate. Organizations also pay HashiCorp for managing security credentials. Founded in 2 , HashiCorp went public on Nasdaq in 2021. The company generated a net loss of nearly $191 million on $583 million in revenue in the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, according to its annual report. In December, Mitchell Hashimoto, co-founder of HashiCorp, whose family name is reflected in the company name, announced that he was leaving. Revenue jumped almost 23% during that period, compared with 2% for IBM in 2023. IBM executives pointed to a difficult economic climate during a conference call with analysts in January. The hardware, software and consulting provider reports earnings on Wednesday. Cisco held $9 million in HashiCorp shares at the end of March, according to a regulatory filing. Qualcomm However, one thing that hasnt changed is that just like the X Elite, the X Plus Hexagon NPU puts out the same 45 TOPS of machine learning performance. This is particularly notable as Microsoft recently suggested that laptops would require at least 40 TOPS in order to run various elements of its Copilot AI service on-device. Qualcomm is also making some big claims regarding power efficiency, with the X Plus chip said to deliver 37 percent faster CPU performance compared to an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H when both chips are running at the same wattage. And when put up against other Arm-based chips, Qualcomm says the X Plus is 10 percent faster than Apples M3 processor in multi-threaded CPU tasks. Noncompete clauses, widely used in the tech industry, keep employers from freely changing to similar jobs or starting a business in the same field. The result is that workers must often stay in jobs they don't want, switch to a lower-paid position, relocate, or defend against costly litigation. "An estimated 30 million workers nearly one in five Americans [in the workforce] are subject to a noncompete," according to the FTC. The Commission found that noncompetes tend to negatively affect competitive conditions in labor markets by inhibiting efficient matching between workers and employers. There is also evidence that noncompetes lead to increased market concentration and higher prices for consumers. Companies must now cancel existing noncompete clauses and notify employees about the change. The ruling applies to most employees and future hires, but current deals with senior executives still apply on the grounds that such agreements are likely to have been agreed upon by both parties. Tech companies ostensibly use noncompetes as a way to protect IP, but they function in reality to lock in workers. The FTC said that trade secret laws and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) are a better way to protect IP, and "employers that wish to retain employees can compete on the merits for the worker's labor services by improving wages and working conditions." Microsoft, the third largest tech industry employer in the US, eliminated such clauses back in 2022. "While our existing employee agreements have noncompete obligations, we do not endorse the use of such provisions as a retention tool," the company said at the time. Nonetheless, the taste of foods and drinks is subjective, and anyone consuming a dish for the first time may like or dislike it but will not be able to differentiate whether it is good or bad. For example, those who have not acquired the taste of strong-smelling meats such as mutton or fruits like durian will find them unpalatable. After all, one mans meat is another mans poison. Connoisseurs can differentiate gourmet food from the usual fare and between expensive and cheap wines. To the uninitiated, they make no difference. So, there is no need to go out of the way to have the best chicken rice or char kuey teow or any food the first time. Last Saturday, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) posted in its World Factbook and directly translated nasi lemak as fat rice. It could be a ploy to get the public to laugh at the CIA but the capabilities of this organisation to gather accurate intelligence is unsurpassed. However, no organisation can rank foods as universally acceptable, given the broad spectrum of tastes which are mostly acquired from young. Various criteria may be used for rating but it is not as simple as determining whether certain types of meats, vegetables or dishes are delicious. At any rate, great meals are enjoyed thrice. First, the anticipation, then the consumption and finally the memories. Unfortunately, this was not the case for over 20 female students who experienced food poisoning after consuming packed meals during a leadership programme in Kota Bharu last week. Healthwise, we should consume a variety of meats and vegetables. All foods can be enjoyable and healthy if well-cooked with minimal oil, salt, sugar, spice, preservatives and colourings. The texture and temperature must also be right. The quality of meats and vegetables can differ greatly, depending on where they are bred or grown and how they were brought from the farms to the kitchen. For example, the humble tilapia fish will taste horrible if bred in ponds with still, muddy waters, and are different from those raised in large ponds fed with fresh water from a mountain stream. The best-farmed tilapia (Chinese call them African fish where they originated) in the world are found in Batang Ai Dam in Sarawak. If freshly caught and not frozen, they taste heavenly, similar to many expensive river fishes, with the king being empurau. Steaming is the healthiest way to cook fresh fish, with minimal seasoning to enjoy its unique flavour, not masked by spices. Grilling or roasting using charcoal fire may produce the most tasty meat but this method of cooking is less healthy, and the worst is deep frying. More importantly, foods must be clean and freshly cooked. Sadly, food handling is poor in Malaysia. It is common to see fish and prawns sold outside wet markets by the roadside and in night markets, with little or no ice to keep them fresh. It is also the practice of most restaurants, stalls and caterers to cook food hours before it is consumed, and fruits are often cut open and left to oxidise. Cut red chillies and chopped garlic in soya sauce are normally placed on tables at Chinese eateries for diners to help themselves. However, chillies and garlic begin to oxidise once they are cut open. Not only does this cause them to lose their sting but they can also develop an unpleasant odour after a few hours. Before the advent of the internet, I was aware that everything looked great on a postcard. Today, many dishes featured in digital photos and videos appear appetising, and food channels are popular but many of the recommendations need to be taken with a pinch of salt. I have patronised many of the recommended outlets before viewing the videos, and do not wish to return. Influencers appear to relish nearly every dish they sample, often putting on a plastic smile to present a more favourable image on camera. However, food channels and rankings will remain popular as food is close to the hearts of many but disputes over food between individuals from different countries are unnecessary. Food should be a source of celebration, uniting everyone as part of a big family, and there should be no winners or losers. It can be a misconception to promote uniquely local foods to attract more foreign tourists. For example, kuih-muih (traditional cakes) may be popular with many Malaysians but others may find them too sweet and unhealthy. However, it is effective to offer localised versions of food that foreign tourists are already familiar with, such as local Chinese foods to visitors from China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and ethnic Chinese in Southeast Asia and Australia. As taste buds will not change overnight, most people will opt for familiarity or comfort foods, with the younger generation growing up more on fast food, and may not acquire the taste of many traditional foods, but when there is no choice, the hungry will settle for what is available.

Higher-rated V60 and V90 cards are usually better for capturing 8K, but they come at a much higher cost. The UHS Speed Class, or U-rating, also refers to a cards minimum sequential write speed. It comes in two varieties: U3, which mandates a minimum of 30 MB/s, and U1, which is rated for 10 MB/s. The older Speed Class rating overlaps with the other two systems. Its signified by a C symbol and goes from Class 2 to Class 10, with the number (again) indicating minimum sequential write speed. This rating is less relevant nowadays, but you may still see a C10 logo on some cards. The Application Performance spec, marked by an A symbol, is an indicator of random read/write speeds. This is measured in IOPS, or input/output operations per second, rather than MB/s. There are two categories here: A1 cards offer a minimum random read speed of 1,500 IOPS and a minimum random write speed of 500 IOPS, while A2 cards bump those up to 4,000 IOPS and 2,000 IOPS, respectively. Most V30 cards offer significantly higher write speeds than 30 MB/s, for instance, and some A1 cards can outperform some A2 models in practice. The speeds advertised by manufacturers arent always 100 percent accurate, either: Sometimes the card will be slower in real-world use, other times it may actually be a bit faster. UHS bus speeds The other spec to note is the cards bus interface. Most microSD cards available today are UHS-I, which have a theoretical maximum speed of 104 MB/s. There are also UHS-II cards, which have an extra row of pins on the back and can reach up to 312 MB/s. (A UHS-III standard exists as well but hasnt seen wide adoption.) These are labeled on the card with a Roman numeral I or II. The fastest microSD cards you can buy right now are UHS-II cards, and theyre usually the ones with V60 or V90 ratings. If you shoot lots of 4K to 8K video or frequently use burst mode to capture ultra high-res photos, the performance gains of a good UHS-II card can save you time. But these are much more expensive than UHS-I cards: For instance, this 128GB model from Lexar is a decent bargain at $40. Thats less than many UHS-II models weve seen in the past but still more than double the typical price of our top pick mentioned below. You need a device thats compatible with the UHS-II interface to see any benefits, too, and stock for UHS-II cards is generally spottier. For now, the higher speeds arent worth the price premium for most people, so we stuck mostly to UHS-I cards here. Well also note Samsungs recent announcement of a new 256GB microSD card based on an entirely different standard called SD Express. This is theoretically much faster than any UHS-I or UHS-II option: Samsung claims this specific model can reach sequential read speeds up to a whopping 800 MB/s. SD Express has technically been around for several years but hasnt seen wide adoption, so exactly how this card performs in reality and how much itll cost remains to be seen. Well test the device once it becomes available, which Samsung says will be sometime later in 2024. Warranty Many microSD cards are designed to be durable, with protection from water, extreme temperatures, X-rays and drops. Still, in case of catastrophe, a long warranty is always good to have. Many manufacturers offer lifetime limited warranties, though weve noticed that endurance cards marketed to withst hours of writing are usually covered for a much shorter period of time. Avoiding counterfeits The memory card market has had a particular problem with scammers selling fake products. To guard against this, only buy from a known brand and a reputable retailer such as Best Buy, B Photo or Adorama. If you shop at Amazon, only buy if the shipper and seller is Amazon.com. (Though a handful of users have reported receiving counterfeits even from Amazon directly in the past.) Remember: If a price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of any retailer offering significantly a lower price than others. Once you receive a card, check its packaging for any irregularities. You can run benchmark tests like CrystalDiskMark or BlackMagic Disk Speed Test to verify its speeds arent drastically lower than whats advertised (or possible, given its specs). You can also use software thats designed to verify the true capacity and performance of your card, such as H2testw and FakeFlashTest . How we tested We put 13 microSD cards through a series of tests to verify their sequential and random performance. These included benchmarks like CrystalDiskMark , BlackMagic Disk Speed Test , ATTO Disk Benchmark and AJA System Test , as well as a few real-world tests. We copied and pasted a small folder of photos about 1.15GB in size to and from each card, then did the same with a larger 12.2GB folder containing multiple file types and subfolders, timing the process each time. We also checked how each card performed on the Steam Deck, downloading games of varying sizes including Stardew Valley , Aperture Desk Job , Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Apex Legends then timing how long it took to launch each game and load save files. We used a Kingston USB 3.2 UHS-II reader to test each card on both Windows 11 and macOS Sonoma. For the former, we used an Alienware gaming PC with an Intel Core i9-10900F, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. For the latter, we used a 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro with an Apple M1 Pro chip, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. To use our card reader on the MacBook, we used Apples USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter . We tested the 128GB version of each card wherever possible, though for a few cards SanDisk's Extreme and Samsung's Pro Plus and Pro Ultimate we were only able to test their 256GB models. We also reformatted each card before testing with the SD Associations Memory Card Formatter tool . Other notable microSD cards The SanDisk Extreme and PNY Elite-X. Photo by Jeff Dunn / Engadget Delkin Devices Power We didnt use it ourselves, but if youre willing to pay for a more powerful UHS-II card built for heavy-duty video recording, the Delkin Devices Power has tested well elsewhere and should deliver significantly faster sequential write speeds than our picks above. Its one of the few UHS-II cards we could actually find in stock, but it costs a ton, with a 128GB model normally priced at $93. SanDisk microSDXC Card for Nintendo Switch The SanDisk microSDXC Card for Nintendo Switch is another decent option if you ever see it available for less than the Pro Plus and Canvas Go Plus. Its sequential read speeds were about the same as the latter in our benchmarks, but its sequential writes were slightly slower (and farther behind the Pro Plus). Its random read/writes were a bit behind according to CrystalDiskMark as well. The 128GB version of this card is priced around $18 as of this writing, while the 512GB model costs around $50; both are higher than the Pro Plus. SanDisk backs the card with a lifetime warranty, however, plus its available in a 1TB capacity . Note that we tested the Apex Legends version of the 128GB card; SanDisk also sells a Super Mario model , but we cant speak to whether that one performs any differently. Its another V30, U3 and A2 model, and like Samsungs card, its sequential write speeds were a bit faster than the Canvas Go Plus and SanDisk Switch card in our benchmarks. Those write speeds werent as quick as the Pro Plus, and its sequential reads trailed all three cards. Random read/writes also lagged behind the Pro Plus and Canvas Go Plus, and we noticed its speeds peak and dip more noticeably in our file transfer test. Still, its not slow, so depending on its price, it might be a good bargain if you need fast write speeds for video recording and the like. Its also available in 1TB , plus it comes with a lifetime limited warranty. SanDisk Extreme The SanDisk Extreme effectively matched the Pro Plus in a few of our sequential write tests and delivered sequential reads about on par with the Canvas Go Plus, but that was partly due to us only being able to secure the cards 256GB model, which is higher-rated than the 128GB version. Its a fine choice if you see it on sale at a reputable seller, but its random performance lagged behind the Samsung Pro and Kingston cards, and it typically costs more. It does have a 1TB model , though. SanDisk Extreme Pro The SanDisk Extreme Pro is a rival to the Samsung Pro Ultimate but, as of this writing, is either unavailable at most trusted retailers or priced too high by comparison. PNY Elite-X The PNY Elite-X wasnt too far off the random read/write performance of the Pro Plus and Pro Ultimate in CrystalDiskMark, and it often goes for cheap, but it was well behind in our sequential tests. The company is expected to present the paper next month at the annual meeting of the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy. "Its OpenCRISPR-1 protein is built on a similar structure as the fabled CRISPR-Cas9 DNA snipper, but with hundreds of mutations that help reduce its off-target effects by 95%," reports Fierce Biotech, citing the company's preprint manuscript published on BioRxiv. "Profluent said it can be employed as a 'drop-in replacement' in any experiment calling for a Cas9-like molecule." While Profluent will keep its LLM generators private, the startup says it will open-source the products of this initiative. "Attempting to edit human DNA with an AI-designed biological system was a scientific moonshot," Profluent co-founder and CEO Ali Madani, Ph.D., said in a statement. On Tuesday, Thorn and All Tech Is Human released a new paper titled Safety by Design for Generative AI: Preventing Child Sexual Abuse that outlines strategies and lays out recommendations for companies that build AI tools, search engines, social media platforms, hosting companies and developers to take steps to prevent generative AI from being used to harm children. One of the recommendations, for instance, asks companies to choose data sets used to train AI models carefully and avoid ones only only containing instances of CSAM but also adult sexual content altogether because of generative AIs propensity to combine the two concepts. Thorn is also asking social media platforms and search engines to remove links to websites and apps that let people nudity images of children, thus creating new AI-generated child sexual abuse material online. A flood of AI-generated CSAM, according to the paper, will make identifying genuine victims of child sexual abuse more difficult by increasing the haystack problem an reference to the amount of content that law enforcement agencies must current sift through. If you keep up with the gaming mouse market, heres the short version: The Viper V3 Pro has virtually the same shape and soft-touch coating as last year's midrange Viper V3 HyperSpeed , but its far lighter at 54 grams, plus it has optical switches, a technically superior sensor and a few small design tweaks. Its the follow-up to the popular Viper V2 Pro from 2022 and the ambidextrous complement to the aforementioned DeathAdder V3 Pro, which has a more dramatically contoured ergonomic shape. As such, the Viper V3 Pro deliberately excludes features thatd make it more convenient for day-to-day use: Theres no Bluetooth and only two side buttons, while the DPI switch is located on the bottom of the mouse. The scroll wheel can't tilt left or right, and theres no lighting, either. But these omissions make sense if you view the mouse as a tool for esports: They keep the weight down and make it harder to hit buttons by accident. The most important thing with any gaming mouse is its shape, and the Viper V3 Pros should fit most hand sizes well. Its highly similar to Logitech's G Pro X Superlight 2 , its chief competitor, but slightly longer and flatter. A modest but noticeable hump in the center rests naturally in your palm, while the sides are gently contoured in then out to welcome the tops of your thumb and ring finger (or pinkie). The main click buttons are grooved, slightly flared and amply sized. None of the angles are aggressive. Razer says it works best with a fingertip or claw grip ; I have few issues as someone who uses the latter. But the design isnt so short or flat that its horrible for palm grips. In total, it measures 5.0 x 2.51 x 1.57 inches. The mouses coating is pleasingly soft and smooth. Itll pick up fingerprint smudges over time, but it should be grippy enough for most people out of the gate. (Razer includes some pre-cut grip tape in the box if it still feels too slippery.) The device as a whole is sturdily built, with no sign of flex or creaking in my two weeks of daily use. Notably, it achieves this weight without any cutouts in its top or bottom shell. Rival gaming mice like the Pwnage Stormbreaker or Pulsar X2V2 are similarly light but leave their interiors more open to dust and detritus. The mouses main click buttons are fast, not sticky and on the softer side for a device that uses optical switches. They arent as loud as the clicks on the G Pro X Superlight 2, though the right-click panel on my test unit sounds a little less full than the left-click one. (Thats more of a nitpick than a dealbreaker.) As with most optical mice, the main buttons may not be as satisfying to press as good mechanical switches, but theyre more likely to avoid durability issues over time. Id also give the Viper V3 Pro the edge over Logitechs mouse when it comes to the side buttons and scroll wheel. The Viper's wheel is tighter, quieter and has grippier ridges on its exterior, while its side buttons are a bit less mushy by comparison. In terms of performance, the Viper V3 Pro uses Razers new Focus Pro 35K Optical Sensor Gen-2. It can reach a maximum of 35,000 DPI, and you can adjust that sensitivity in 1 DPI increments. A max speed of 750 IPS and max acceleration of 70 G accompany that. Per usual with gaming mice, these higher figures are partly marketing fluff: Many older gaming mice have few issues when it comes to sensor accuracy and consistency. The mouse is available in black or white, though Razer says the white model weighs a gram more. Razer Along those lines, the mouse comes with Razers HyperPolling Wireless Dongle , which costs $30 on its own. It advertises a maximum polling rate of 8,000Hz, which technically allows for more precise movements but has a negligible effect on real-world performance. Mostly, it saps battery life: Razer says the Viper V3 Pro can last up to 95 hours at a 1,000Hz polling rate, which is fine, but that dips to just 17 hours at 8,000Hz. Still, while I am far from an pro-level player, I cant foresee many complaints about the Viper V3 Pros responsiveness or connection quality. The shape, weight and sensor all play a role in that as do the large PTFE feet, which let the mouse glide smoothly across surfaces. Somewhat less agreeable is the included cable, which is cleverly angled to reduce drag but isnt the thinnest or most flexible cord I've seen. The dongle still requires running the cable from a PC to a desk, too. Nevertheless, the Viper V3 Pro is well worth a look if you take competitive gaming seriously, prefer an ambidextrous shape and have money to burn. To be clear, there are still several gaming mice thatll feel comfortable and perform well for less cash, especially if youre OK with a wired model. And if you own an older Viper youre still happy with today, theres no pressing need to upgrade. A mouse like this is closer to a Ferrari, when most people can live just fine with a Subaru. Berbeza dengan Menteri Besar Selangor, umum dan kita lunaskan. Menteri Besar Kedah ni dah la dia ada kes hasutan melibatkan Sultan Selangor, jadi saya rasa diam jalah Sanusi, katanya. Beliau berkata demikian pada sidang media selepas majlis menandatangani Memorandum Persefahaman (MoU) antara Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO) dan Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (FINAS) di sini hari ini. Sanusi, yang juga Pengarah Pilihan Raya PN, berkata keputusan MCA untuk tidak terlibat dalam sebarang kempen Pilihan Raya Kecil (PRK) Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Kuala Kubu Baharu akan memberi kelebihan kepada gabungan itu. Jumaat lepas, Jawatankuasa Pembangunan Politik MCA dilapor memutuskan untuk tidak terlibat dalam sebarang aktiviti kempen PRK DUN Kuala Kubu Baharu sekiranya calon dikemukakan bukan daripada Barisan Nasional (BN). Sebelum ini, MIC turut membuat keputusan sama atas alasan serupa. PRK DUN Kuala Kubu Baharu diadakan berikutan kematian Lee Kee Hiong, 58, pada 21 Mac lepas akibat kanser. Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya menetapkan Sabtu ini sebagai hari penamaan calon manakala hari pengundian pada 11 Mei. Mengulas mengenai pembatalan projek lebuh raya Petaling Jaya Traffic Dispersal Elevated Highway (PJD Link), Fahmi meminta semua pihak termasuk Khairy Jamaluddin merujuk kenyataan Jabatan Kerja Raya jika mahukan maklumat mengenai perkara itu. Dia kena baca sekali dengan kenyataan (Jabatan) Kerja Raya. Saya dah sebut dalam sidang media sebelum ini selepas mesyuarat Kabinet bahawa akan ada kenyataan susulan daripada Kementerian Kerja Raya dan JKR telahpun keluarkan kenyataan, katanya. Fahmi berkata demikian bagi mengulas kritikan bekas Menteri Kesihatan itu yang dilaporkan mendakwa bahawa beliau tidak memiliki kepakaran untuk menjawab soalan mengenai projek PJD Link dan pembatalannya. Pada 17 April lepas, beliau mengumumkan bahawa kerajaan tidak akan meneruskan projek itu selepas syarikat konsesi gagal memenuhi enam daripada 11 syarat yang ditetapkan oleh Putrajaya.
