6/11 9:58 pm | U Mobile chosen as Malaysias second 5G provider based on multiple factors - MCMC - SUN PUTRAJAYA : U Mobile Sdn Bhd was chosen as Malaysias second 5G network provider based on factors like business and technical plans, complaint records, customer satisfaction, and its track record in infrastructure projects, according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Network (JENDELA) and the 4G Upgrade Project, in line with MCMCs commitment to improving user experience and service quality. MCMC noted that regulatory responsibilities over U Mobile can be enforced according to established compliance requirements, and penalties will apply in cases of non-compliance. On Nov 1, the MCMC announced that the second 5G network in Malaysia will be implemented by U Mobile Sdn Bhd after it had conducted a detailed technical and commercial evaluation to select the mobile network operator (MNO) for the project. This thorough process aimed to ensure that the people, industry and the nation as a whole will reap the full benefits of the 5G technology. According to MCMC, as the second 5G network provider, U Mobile Sdn Bhd is allowed to collaborate with other ecosystem partners, subject to MCMCs approval. MCMC will continuously assess these collaborations to ensure that the benefits are shared by all Malaysians, it said. MCMC acknowledged the current foreign shareholding in U Mobile Sdn Bhd but stated that it is the licensees responsibility to inform MCMC of any changes in foreign ownership. The commission noted that with the establishment of a second 5G network, MCMC is paving the way for greater flexibility comprehensive service inclusivity in the future. This development encourages competition, strengthens industry resilience, and enables Malaysians to enjoy high-speed connectivity at affordable prices, it said. The MCMC added that it will continue to monitor quality standards across all service providers to ensure a robust and reliable telecommunications landscape for the countrys future. |

MCMC records statement from Gunung Semanggol Assemblyman Razman over posting in FB - SUN - 29/10 10:19 pm PUTRAJAYA : The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from Gunung Semanggol state assemblyman Razman Zakaria yesterday over a post allegedly false and obscene that was uploaded on the Facebook account Haji Razman Zakaria sim card unit used to assist in the investigation. According to MCMC, the post involved several sensitive issues with racial overtones, including the issue of flying flags of foreign countries during the Malaysia Guang Ze Zun Wang Cultural Festival 2024 celebration parade recently. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which prohibits the drafting and transmission of comments or communications which, among other things, are threatening, obscene or incestuous with the intent to offend or hurt the sensitivity of others, he said in a statement here today. The section provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year or both upon conviction. The MCMC reminds the public to always be vigilant and cautious before uploading any content that can affect public harmony and order, especially the 3R (Royalty, Religion, Race) issue. Strict action will be taken against those involved in accordance with the provisions of the existing law, according to the statement. |

PDRM initiates probe into alleged child grooming group on social media - SUN - 27/10 5:44 pm KUALA LUMPUR : The police (PDRM) have begun an investigation into the alleged presence of a child sexual grooming group on social media platforms. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the investigation began after PDRM received information from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on Friday (Oct 25) such activities. The investigation is being led by the Malaysian Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) Unit under the Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bukit Aman. The MICAC D11 Unit has initiated online intelligence gathering and shared preliminary suspect information with MCMC for profiling, while further online intelligence is ongoing to gather stronger evidence of child sexual offences. The D11 Division, together with MCMC, is currently conducting further intelligence and investigation into this information, he said when contacted today. Yesterday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that MCMC had received complaints regarding the presence of a child sexual grooming group on social media platforms and that the agency is collaborating with Meta and the police for further investigation. |
