Show me where it says Madani Government - Zahid challenges government over Unity pact - Sinardaily - 12/09 7:57 pm Where is the mention of the (Madani) Government? Is it here?Definitions and interpretations, unless the circumstances and context require otherwise, the following terms or expressions used in this Agreement shall have the following meanings: The memorandum of understanding on cooperation shall mean this agreement and any subsequent agreements made relating to the formation and operation of the Malaysia Unity Government.Eh, Ive let it slip. Look at this first, he said during his winding-up speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly (PAU 2026) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here on Saturday.Zahids remarks appeared to reinforce Umnos position that the administration should be formally referred to as the Malaysia Unity Government, rather than the Madani Government. The issue had earlier been raised by Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who stressed that Umno wanted the administration to continue to be referred to as the Malaysia Unity Government, in line with the original agreement governing its formation.Asyraf said there was no issue with the Malaysia Madani concept being used as a vision or war cry, but argued that referring to the administration itself as the Madani Government was inconsistent with the original agreement. The remarks come as Umno continues to assert its position within the coalition government, stressing that its participation in the administration does not mean surrendering the partys political identity or interests.Zahid had also previously stressed that cooperation within the government should not be interpreted as political surrender, saying parties could work together without losing their respective identities. The Malaysia Unity Government was formed following the 15th General Election (GE15), after no single coalition secured a simple majority to form the Federal Government. The cooperation brought together parties from previously opposing political blocs, including PH and BN, alongside other parties, to form the current administration.Zahids decision to publicly read from the agreement at the Umno general assembly therefore puts renewed focus on the terms underpinning that cooperation, particularly the political understanding between the parties forming the Unity Government. |

Umno wants Unity Government, not Madani Government Asyraf Wajdi - Sinardaily - 12/09 3:44 pm When Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took his oath (as Prime Minister), an agreement involving 18 parties was formalised and named the Agreement on the Formation of the Malaysia Unity Government, he told journalists. Asyraf Wajdi was speaking at a press conference held in conjunction with the 2026 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here on Saturday.Elaborating, Asyraf Wajdi stressed that the governments position as a coalition comprising multiple parties also had implications for how it should be administered. He said the Prime Minister must consistently engage in discussions and consultations with all parties that make up the Unity Government. This is not like previous governments that had an absolute majority of 112 (parliamentary seats), where the Prime Minister could be said to be leading a government formed by one party. But when it is a Unity Government, a government that is united, consultation must be carried out with all members of those parties, he said. |

The reason is that we are still committed to the agreement on the formation of the Malaysian Unity Government. As long as we have not reached the end of the term or the election, as long as the basis is that we will not break through the roof or change this government by making a change that only involves the Prime Minister, that is what breaking through the roof means. We are thinking about the political stability that we are defending, he said during a press conference held in conjunction with the 2026 Umno General Assembly (PAU) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here on Saturday.Asyraf said Umno did not see any major issue that could affect the continuity of the Unity Government, adding that the decision on the government's future should ultimately be left to the people through an election. On whether party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's repeated use of the word guru during his policy speech, coupled with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sarcastic response, indicated a war of nerves or that Umno and BN would not cooperate with PH in GE16, Asyraf said it was too early to draw such conclusions. He said negotiations on political cooperation for the next general election (GE16) would only begin after the dissolution of Parliament was announced. It is still premature because negotiations have not even begun |

More than 45,000 return to Umno's 'Rumah Bangsa' since concept's launch, says Asyraf - Sinardaily - 11/09 11:34 am KUALA LUMPUR Umno is seeing a resurgence in support across Malay, Chinese and Indian voters following its performance in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, with 45,808 people also recorded as having returned to the party since the introduction of its Rumah Bangsa concept.Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the increased support reflected growing public confidence in the party and Barisan Nasional (BN), rather than merely improvements in electoral numbers. He said Chinese support for BN in Johor rose from 9.5 per cent in the 2022 state election to 20 per cent in 2026, while support in Negeri Sembilan increased from 8.7 per cent to 14 per cent.He said Indian support also recorded a significant increase, rising from 18.9 per cent in Johor in 2022 to 54.8 per cent this year.In both state elections, BN secured the highest share of Indian votes compared with other parties, he said in his speech at the Umno Youth General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) on Friday.Asyraf also pointed to a sharp increase in Malay support, with BN's share in Negeri Sembilan rising from 45.8 per cent in 2022 to 79 per cent in 2026.In Johor, Malay support increased from 44.9 per cent in 2022 to 82.4 per cent this year, he said.He attributed the increase to several factors, including support from military voters, with BN winning all 14 military camp polling channels in Johor with 82.1 per cent of the vote.In Negeri Sembilan, he said cooperation with Pas and its Perikatan Nasional (PN) partners resulted in 94.7 per cent support from military voters, with BN winning all 88 polling channels.Asyraf also highlighted BN's performance in Felda polling districts, saying the coalition secured victories in all such districts in Negeri Sembilan and across Johor. He credited former Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek for efforts to restore the confidence of Felda settlers. The Umno secretary-general said young voters had also contributed to the party's performance, with BN winning all Malay youth voting channels in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. He congratulated Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and Umno Puteri chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi for their efforts to reconnect young people with the party.Asyraf said the party's Rumah Bangsa concept, introduced by Umno president at the previous Umno General Assembly, had also received a strong response from former members and supporters.Since the concept was announced at the Umno General Assembly about seven months ago, a total of 45,808 people have been recorded as having returned to 'Rumah Bangsa', he said.He also thanked several former senior leaders, including Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Khairy Jamaluddin, Tan Sri Hamid Albar, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop and Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, for their return and continued support. As of Aug 31, 2026, Umno's total membership stood at 3,251,456, comprising about 1.4 million Umno Women members, 418,000 Umno Youth members and 226,000 Umno Puteri members.Johor recorded the highest increase in new members over the past eight months, followed by Pahang, Selangor, Perak and Sabah, he said. However, Asyraf cautioned party members against becoming complacent following the electoral gains. He said the same political momentum that lifted the party could also bring it down if its leaders and members became disconnected from reality. This victory is not a licence for us to beat our chests |

Winning today - Zahid takes swipe at political leaders who make unrealistic campaign promises - Sinardaily - 11/09 10:58 am KUALA LUMPUR Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi took a swipe at political leaders who make big promises during elections, saying winning power alone does not mean a countrys problems will be solved. In a pointed moment during his opening speech at the Umno General Assembly today, Zahid said, winning today before pausing and allowing delegates to complete the sentence. The remark drew loud cheers from the floor.Zahid appeared to question the tendency of politicians to make promises during election campaigns as though winning an election would automatically resolve the countrys problems. He said political victory should not be seen as an end in itself, stressing that political parties must have a long-term vision for the country and future generations. He said Umnos role was not simply to win one election after another or remain in power for one term, but to help shape Malaysias development across generations.Reflecting on the eight years since Umno and Barisan Nasional lost federal power, Zahid asked delegates whether the party had truly learnt from the experience.Eight years of reality |

Presence of Pas leadership at Umno General Assembly draws attention - Sinardaily - 11/09 10:25 am KUALA LUMPUR The appearance of Pas' top leadership on the third day of the 2026 Umno General Assembly, held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Friday, drew widespread attention.Among the senior Pas leaders present were vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.Bachok MP and political secretary to Pas president Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman was also present and sat in the guest gallery alongside other Pas leaders.Their attendance at the Umno General Assembly suggests ties between the country's two largest Malay parties could be forged through political understanding ahead of the upcoming Melaka state election (PRN).It is also seen as a reciprocal visit following Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki's attendance at Pas' 72nd annual muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (Putik) in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, representing Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last week. The Umno General Assembly was also attended by ambassadors to Malaysia from countries including Palestine, Iran, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia, Turkiye, the People's Republic of China, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Oman, Yemen, the United Kingdom (UK), Syria, Iraq, Japan, the United States (US) and New Zealand.Earlier, Umno agreed to invite Pas' top leadership to attend the assembly, running from Sep 9 to 12, in return for Pas' earlier invitation to Umno's leadership.Umno and Pas previously had a formal political partnership through Muafakat Nasional (MN), signed in 2019.However, that relationship later cooled after Pas strengthened its cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) through the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. |

Former minister to be charged next Monday in TH RCI probe - MACC - Sinardaily - 10/09 7:12 pm PUTRAJAYA - A former minister will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court next Monday as part of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) probe arising from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the commission had recommended three charges against the individual under Section 403 of the Penal Code for dishonest misappropriation of property.Speaking at a special press conference at the MACC headquarters today, Abd Halim said the former minister was also linked to assets in Saudi Arabia. He said five people had been charged so far in the TH RCI probe: a former deputy general manager of construction and a former security and health manager at TH Properties Sdn Bhd, a former Lembaga Tabung Haji chairman, Alam Maritim Sdn Bhd's chief executive officer, and a former TH chief operating officer. In addition, of the 14 investigation papers opened by the MACC previously, six have been completed, with two leading to charges while four others were classified as no further action (NFA).He said the remaining eight investigation papers were MACC initiatives stemming from the findings of the TH RCI report, with the commission recommending investigations into investments found to be suspicious and unsatisfactory."So far, we have recommended three, including the one to be charged on Monday. The rest are still in progress because they involve foreign entities in Saudi Arabia and Singapore."It takes time because we have to go through the mutual legal assistance (MLA) process, obtain documents from overseas parties and record statements," he explained. In a related development, Abd Halim denied claims that a senior UMNO leader would be called to give evidence before the commission after the partys general assembly next week.It was previously reported in the media that another senior UMNO leader was expected to be called by the MACC next week to assist in a case linked to the TH RCI report |
